The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

The best chocolate chip cookies are soft, chewy, and packed with chocolate chips.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugars on medium speed until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the salt, vanilla, and eggs, and beat until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Drop dough by the tablespoonful onto lined baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake until cookies are golden brown around the edges but still soft in the center, about 10-12 minutes.
  9. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For chewier cookies, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking.
  • Use a mix of chocolate chips for added flavor.
