Old-Fashioned Caramel Rolls

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup pecans or walnuts (chopped)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, heat milk and butter until warm. Remove from heat and stir in sugar and yeast. Let it sit until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth, then cover and let it rise until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out the dough and spread with melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Sprinkle nuts on top.
  5. Roll the dough up and cut into slices. Place them in a greased baking dish.
  6. Cover and let rise again until puffed up. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Bake rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.

  • For extra caramel flavor, consider drizzling with additional caramel sauce before serving.
